Chicago
Action Alert!

What: A protest against the sale of illegal "foie gras" (liver from cruelly force fed ducks)

Where: Cyrano's, 546 N. Wells St., Chicago 60610

When: Sunday, Feb. 25 at 5:00 p.m.

Signs and flyers will be provided!

Ducks and geese are force fed to the point of organ rupture and death to produce this so-called delicacy. The livers become almost 100% fat and up to 10 times their normal size.

Due to this cruelty, Chicago banned the sale of foie gras earlier this year. (Chicago Municipal Code Chapter 7-39). However, Cyrano's has been holding fundraisers to repeal the ordinance and featuring foie gras in a series of $139 per plate dinners.

The Feb. 25 dinner will host a who's who of Chicago chefs who are also violating the law, from restaurants including Bin 36 and Hot Doug's.

UPDATE: On Feb. 16, Hot Doug's received a citation and had all of their foie gras confiscated by the Chicago Department of Health! Please write to the Chicago Department of Health, 1713 S Ashland Ave, Chicago, IL 60608 to thank the agency for enforcing the law, and to encourage them to cite Cyrano's for the upcoming foie gras fundraiser on Feb. 25.

Ducks being force fed to make 'foie gras'

APRL, MFA, IDA and SHARK have been protesting restaurants that violate Chicago's ban on foie gras.

Our last protest was at Bin 36 and was covered by many media outlets, including the Chicago Tribune. Millions of people in France also saw the protest, as it was aired on TF1, the largest TV network there.

As public outrage over the animal cruelty of foie gras increases with each one of these protests, the City will continue citing restaurants that violate the law.

Please be sure to look and act professional at this peaceful protest! There must be no mistake that the restaurant is breaking the law, not us.
